Eddie Owns 150 Houses—And We Call That Success?

We’re told the dream is to own a home. One home. A place to feel safe, raise a family, build a life. But somewhere along the way, that dream got hijacked.

I recently saw an ad celebrating a guy named Eddie—he owns 150 properties. He was presented as a symbol of success. A financial genius. The kind of story people are supposed to admire and aspire to.

Meanwhile, I’ve just supported someone who has no fixed address. They’re not lazy. They’re not irresponsible. They’re just one of thousands of Australians who are stuck—trapped in a system where housing is treated as a commodity, not a human right.

They were dealing with a relationship breakdown and a housing crisis, asking for help, doing everything right. But what kind of system lets one person collect 150 homes while others can’t get a single room?

We don’t need more Eddies. We need more housing people can actually live in.

It’s time to redefine success. Not by how many properties someone hoards—but by how many people have a safe, stable place to call home.
